Australia’s assistant coach Daniel Vettori explained the reason for not feeding Mitchell Starc in the match against Afghanistan.
In the Super 12 stage of the T20 World Cup, Afghanistan fought hard against Australia and lost by 4 runs after a thrilling encounter, while questions were raised on the Australian team management for not feeding Mitchell Starc in the team.
In the match against Afghanistan, Australian fast bowler Mitchell Starc was not part of the playing eleven, the reason for which has now been explained by the assistant coach of the team.
Speaking after the match, Daniel Vettori said that the decision not to field Mitchell Starc in this match was a strategic one and the management thought it best to replace him with Kane Richardson in the team.
“We brought in Richardson for the powerplay, Starc was left out of the team thinking that Hazlewood and Cummins would take wickets, both of them have more ability to take wickets with the new ball,” the Australian assistant coach said.
He added that the team leader was of the view that Kane is exceptional for the death overs so we will use him there.
Daniele Vettori said that players have to adapt to every situation, especially when they are at your home ground
