In the sixth match of the first phase of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, UAE bowler Karthik Palanyapan Miyapan scored the first hat-trick of the event against Sri Lanka.
On the fourth ball of the 15th over of the ongoing match in the Australian city of Geelong, Karthik first dismissed the Sri Lankan batsman Bhanuka Rajapaksa, who was caught by Kashif Dawood.
Charith Asalanka got out on the fifth ball of the same over, while captain Dasan Shanka returned to the pavilion on the sixth and last ball.
Karthik Palaniappan became the fifth bowler to take a hat-trick in the T20 World Cup since 2007 by taking a hat-trick in the sixth match of the T20 World Cup.
Earlier, Australia’s Brett Lee had scored a hat-trick in the inaugural season of T20 World Cup i.e. 2007.
Then in 2021, three bowlers took the hat-trick including Ireland bowler Curtis Kaempfer, Sri Lanka’s Vinandu Hasaranga, and South African cricketer Kagiso Rabada.
It should be noted that earlier UAE lost to the Netherlands in their opening match while Sri Lanka suffered an upset defeat by Namibia
