Russia and Turkey have signed an agreement for the second batch of S-400 missile systems.
According to a news report by the Reuters news agency, the official Russian news agency has reported, citing senior Russian military officials, that an agreement for the second shipment of the S-400 missile system has been signed between Russia and Turkey.
According to Reuters, after the news of the Russian editorial was published, Turkish officials immediately denied the news regarding the new agreement.
Turkish officials say that no new agreement has been signed between Russia and Turkey regarding the purchase of S-400.
According to the officials, the supply of the second batch of the S-400 defense missile system has to be done under the old contract, no new contract has been made in this regard.
The Turkish Ministry of Defense says that the purchase of the second batch is also part of the original plan and agreement, the same agreement is being implemented, while no new agreement has been signed between the two countries in this regard.
It should be noted that Turkey bought the first batch of the S-400 missile systems from Russia in 2020, in which the US expressed displeasure, and sanctions were also imposed on Turkey, but Turkey bought Russia’s advanced missile system for 2.5 billion dollars. It bought the S-400 air defense system and sent its forces to Russia for training.
Russia’s S-400 air defense system was deemed incompatible with NATO’s extensive air defense system in the region by US defense officials, who did not want the F-35s near the S-400 system because they feared it would Russian experts will be able to know the weaknesses of the F-35.
