Sheryl Sandberg, chief operating officer (COO) of Meta (Facebook’s new name), has decided to leave the social media company.
He made the announcement in a post on his Facebook page.
She said she would step down as COO in the fall of 2022 but would remain part of the board of directors.
Sheryl Sandberg’s departure from Meta comes at a time when the company is facing a number of controversies over privacy and the spread of misleading details.
Sheryl Sandberg, who has been with the company for 14 years, has also faced criticism as COO.
“The products we’ve developed have had an impact around the world, so it’s our responsibility to protect people’s privacy,” Sandberg said in a Facebook post.
“When I started this job in 2008, I thought I would be in this position for five years. Now, 14 years later, it’s time for me to start a new chapter in my life,” he said.
Sheryl Sandberg will be replaced by the company’s chief growth officer, Javier Olivian, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg said in a Facebook post.
Prior to joining Facebook, Sheryl Sandberg was Vice President of Global Online Sales and Operations at Google.
In 2013, she wrote her first book, which became very popular, and even after the sudden death of her husband, Dave Goldberg, she wrote a book.
She said in her Facebook post that she did not know what was hidden for her in the future but now she will focus on charity work.
