The National Assembly passed a bill to repeal the former government’s amendments to the electronic voting machine and overseas Pakistanis’ voting.
The Election Amendment Bill 2022 was introduced in the National Assembly. The bill was introduced by the Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Murtaza Javed Abbasi.
MQM’s Sabir Qaim Khani while speaking in the House said that a strong election commission and strong law have always been needed. ۔
Sabir Qaim Khani said that it is important to seek the opinion of the parties which are not represented in this House. If the bill passed in 2017 is returned, we will support it.
Law Minister Senator Azam Nazir Tarar, while addressing the House, said that the amendment was made to conduct elections through electronic voting machines. He raised many objections in the Election Commission on EVM. Passed, when the bill came to the Senate, it was sent to the committee.
Azam Nazir Tarar said that we had many meetings on it, and the bill was passed by bulldozing the rules.
He said that today’s agenda is quite long, National Accountability Bureau (NAB) amendment bill will also be passed today while a parliamentary committee has been formed for electoral reforms, all political parties are represented in the committee, but only they are included in the committee. Not those who are setting fire to trees and property outside.
The National Assembly session passed clause-wise approval of the bill to amend the Election Act 2017, and after the passage of the bill, the amendments of the previous government regarding electronic voting machines and voting of overseas Pakistanis came to an end.
